Protecting You - Contemporary Adult Romance

Don't let this peaceful cover fool you, this is not a simple cookie-cutter romance!

Alright. So I stayed up extra late to write this review because I don't want to risk forgetting anything I want to say after falling asleep.

Small intro: I literally hated any time I had to put this book down. I am super glad it is the weekend and I could finally finish it!

First things first: The cover for Protecting You is beautiful and speaks to a lighthearted read. BUT it did not reveal to me how bada** I would find the protagonist in this story. Ava is awesome. I might be biased (I did study Forensic & Investigative Sciences in college). I'm not sure I could have related to a character more if you named her Samantha Britt. She is smart, spunky, and loyal. All of these things made me like her instantly.

Overall: Protecting You begins with the reader being introduced to weird tension between Ava and her best friend, Jeremy's, brother. I really can't say much for fear of spoilers, but basically something happens where Ava and Zane (the brother) are forced to spend time together and confront their issues. Everything that happens between any character seemed realistic and practical to me. There were no instantaneous romances. Instead, the gradual development of affection honestly sent my own heart soaring with happiness. I could not get enough of Amanda Siegrist's characters.

Special Note: In Protecting You, relationships and characters are sometimes explained through well-written flashbacks. Amanda Siegrist really did a great job at giving me better insight and understanding into what motivated certain characters' actions and behaviors. I found it to be a unique style, and it was one I enjoyed reading.

So, if you are looking for a lighthearted adult romance, look no further! Protecting You is full of friendship, loss, healing, and a love which will leave you smiling for days. Well done, Amanda Siegrist!

Marked by T.L. Mcdonald - An Indie Book You Should Definitely Check Out!

Alright. Here's the deal...

When I first thought of sharing reviews of indie books I enjoyed, I had a very specific plan for which books I would review first. After all, I have read quite a few, and it only seemed fair to start with those I encountered first. Right?

Well... Marked pretty much interfered with that plan.

I am not joking when I say this is an AMAZING young adult paranormal fantasy. Think Mortal Instruments meets The Relentless Series, while also remaining pretty original.

You know what, why don't I just let you read the review to learn more?

Enjoy!

Autumn in the City of Angels by Kirby Howell - 4 STARS!

Autumn in the City of Angels is a great read for those who enjoy post-apocalyptic adventure stories, with a little science-fiction and heart-warming romance thrown in!

The story opens with meeting Autumn, a 17 year old girl who is going throughout a typical day when tragedy strikes. A plague sweeps the globe, and only about 1% of the population are estimated to have survived the outbreak (I think that's right).

All alone, Autumn is forced to figure out life on her own. After encountering a group of survivors who turn out to be nothing more than power-hungry opportunists, Autumn meets Grey. Grey is intelligent, kind, wise beyond his years, and has secrets of his own. Our protagonist can't help but develop feelings for her savior. We embark on the rest of her time spent figuring out how to stay safe with those she cares for in her new reality.

This book is full of danger, suspense, heartache, friendship, and romance. Basically, it has about everything I could have wanted in a novel! Kirby Howell did a great job making me feel Autumn's emotions: fear, sadness, love, etc. I'm really glad I decided to give this indie book a chance! I'm excited to read the continuation!

*The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it took me a bit to really get into the story. I really wasn't hooked until Autumn began forming her post-apocalyptic relationships.
So, advice for future readers, if you feel a lull in the story, KEEP GOING!

Shadowed Strength by Wendi L. Wilson

I read this book a while ago and left a review on Amazon and Goodreads. Since then, Wendi has been an invaluable source of support and advice on this self-publishing adventure. As a way to say thanks, I would like to feature her debut novel, Shadowed Strength, as my first Indie Book Review on Samantha's Scripts. :)

Shadowed Strength is a young adult book with enough romance to make you swoon and enough mystery and suspense to have you on edge!

I'm out of my teen years, but found Melanie's character very relatable, especially for younger audiences. Her story was real; her insecurities common in our society. It made me invest in her in a way that was different from the typical protagonists I read.

I absolutely loved Melanie and Tara's relationship. Their friendship felt very believable and was completely charming. I laughed at many of Tara's lines throughout the novel, and wished I had a best friend just as quirky!

Melanie's romantic relationship did seem to happen very suddenly, but it did not diminish the sweetness of it or, once again, the believable factor. The romance in Shadowed Strength was cute and heartwarming to say the least.

I could kind of predict the twist at the very end of the book, but it is one that I think will make for a great second book with a completely different plot (I suspect). I look forward to reading the continuation!

Overall, Shadowed Strength is an enjoyable read & I recommend it!
