Wilson's 2nd Novel, Shadowed Instincts, released on 12/15/2015!
Attention all readers of Young Adult Paranormal Romance,

Wendi L. Wilson just released the second installment in the Shadowed Series, and let me tell you... it is AMAZING!

The story picks up right where Shadowed Strength ended, and follows Melanie as she continues on her journey learning about her unique heritage.

Ms. Wilson does an amazing job creating new plot twists and character interactions which will keep you turning the pages! This is definitely a must read, and I cannot wait for book #3!

Melanie Johnson's world just got turned upside down. Things are changing for her, fast, and all she can do is hold on for the ride.

After meeting her father and learning his family secret- one that her affects her directly- Melanie is whisked to the forests of Kentucky to meet his people and learn what she can from them. With her boyfriend Jeremy by her side, she is introduced to a whole new way of life- a glimpse into the life she could have had if circumstance hadn't gotten in the way.

Before long, a threat emerges that could take away one of the most important things in her life- Jeremy. Someone wants him dead. Now they must work together to expose this threat and ensure his safety.

Will Melanie and Jeremy discover the identity of his assailant before it's too late? And will Melanie be able to save Jeremy, like he's done for her so many times before?

*Shadowed Instincts is book 2 in the Shadowed Series and picks up right where book 1 left off. I highly recommend reading Shadowed Strength first!

<![CDATA[A Healing Heart & A Healing Spirit by Melissa A. Hanson]]>Tue, 13 Oct 2015 18:27:58 GMThttp://authorsamanthabritt.weebly.com/indie-reads--reviews/a-healing-heart-a-healing-spirit-by-melissa-a-hanson

Two really sweet and fun Young Adult Romances!

I stumbled upon Melissa A. Hanson and her work through one of the various Goodreads groups I am a member of. I signed up to read and review one of her works & I'm so glad I did! Both are heartwarming contemporary romances and I couldn't resist sharing my reviews of them here!
A Healing Heart

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Healing Heart is a wonderful book that had me teary-eyed within the first five minutes. It is a beautifully told story of a young woman learning how to cope following a tragedy, and the young man who comes into her life and helps her see she has things to live for. It was a very adorable teenage love story that gave me all the feels. :)

The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars was because there were some sections where the author would quickly describe what transpired and then abruptly move on to another place/time period/character POV. I was taken out of the moment at some times as a result, but enjoyed the book regardless.

To summarize, I loved the story, loved the characters, and am eager to read more work by Melissa Hanson! She's an author to keep an eye on, for sure!
A Healing Spirit

Such a cute young adult romance!

I was given this novel in exchange for an honest review. That being said, that fact had no bearing on what I am about to write.

I absolutely LOVED A Healing Spirit. I actually read A Healing Heart as well (the first book in the series). While I enjoyed that book, A Healing Spirit is definitely my favorite of the two.

A Healing Heart opens with the reader reconnecting with Mia and what she has been doing since graduating from high school. She and friends from the previous novel are heading up to a ski resort to hang out after not seeing each other for a while. It was fun for me to catch up with all the characters I grew fond of in the previous novel at this point!

While skiing, a horrible accident occurs which threatens Mia's life. One of the first responders turns out to be Dylan, a good-looking college student working at the ski resort. Can you say dreamy love interest? For some reason he can't imagine, Dylan is drawn to checking in on Mia after the accident. I don't want to spoil what happens, lets just say it gives you all the butterflies you could want.

A Healing Heart has a touch of a love triangle, a hint of mystery, and ends with heart-racing action. It was SO GOOD! Melissa Hanson did a great job (again!) creating lovable characters with realistic plot development which makes this young adult romance stand out from many of the rest (in my opinion!)

Do yourself a favor and give this book a try! I don't think you will regret it. :)

<![CDATA[Protecting You - Contemporary Adult Romance]]>Sat, 19 Sep 2015 18:07:05 GMThttp://authorsamanthabritt.weebly.com/indie-reads--reviews/protecting-you-contemporary-adult-romance

Don't let this peaceful cover fool you, this is not a simple cookie-cutter romance!

Alright. So I stayed up extra late to write this review because I don't want to risk forgetting anything I want to say after falling asleep.

Small intro: I literally hated any time I had to put this book down. I am super glad it is the weekend and I could finally finish it!

First things first: The cover for Protecting You is beautiful and speaks to a lighthearted read. BUT it did not reveal to me how bada** I would find the protagonist in this story. Ava is awesome. I might be biased (I did study Forensic & Investigative Sciences in college). I'm not sure I could have related to a character more if you named her Samantha Britt. She is smart, spunky, and loyal. All of these things made me like her instantly.

Overall: Protecting You begins with the reader being introduced to weird tension between Ava and her best friend, Jeremy's, brother. I really can't say much for fear of spoilers, but basically something happens where Ava and Zane (the brother) are forced to spend time together and confront their issues. Everything that happens between any character seemed realistic and practical to me. There were no instantaneous romances. Instead, the gradual development of affection honestly sent my own heart soaring with happiness. I could not get enough of Amanda Siegrist's characters.

Special Note: In Protecting You, relationships and characters are sometimes explained through well-written flashbacks. Amanda Siegrist really did a great job at giving me better insight and understanding into what motivated certain characters' actions and behaviors. I found it to be a unique style, and it was one I enjoyed reading.

So, if you are looking for a lighthearted adult romance, look no further! Protecting You is full of friendship, loss, healing, and a love which will leave you smiling for days. Well done, Amanda Siegrist!

<![CDATA[Marked by T.L. Mcdonald - An Indie Book You Should Definitely Check Out!]]>Mon, 14 Sep 2015 20:17:21 GMThttp://authorsamanthabritt.weebly.com/indie-reads--reviews/marked-by-tl-mcdonald-an-indie-book-you-should-definitely-check-out

Alright. Here's the deal...

When I first thought of sharing reviews of indie books I enjoyed, I had a very specific plan for which books I would review first. After all, I have read quite a few, and it only seemed fair to start with those I encountered first. Right?

Well... Marked pretty much interfered with that plan.

I am not joking when I say this is an AMAZING young adult paranormal fantasy. Think Mortal Instruments meets The Relentless Series, while also remaining pretty original.

You know what, why don't I just let you read the review to learn more?

5 Stars to Marked by T.L. Mcdonald

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

Where do I even begin? I LOVED this book!!! If you are going to keep reading (which I hope you do) be prepared for some fan-girling. Also: please, please, please take this review seriously. I do not know T.L. Mcdonald personally, and this review is completely honest and sincere. I really enjoyed the book this much!

Marked opens with Hanna and her best friends going out, and I was instantly invested in these characters. T.L. Mcdonald did an AMAZING job developing their personalities and relationships. I felt like I'd known Hanna, Kat, and Jared forever. The plot quickly develops with an awesome suspenseful scene which sets the tone for the rest of the novel. I don't want to go into too much detail and ruin the surprise for anyone. Let me just say, it's crazy good.

I want to discuss Jared specifically for a moment. Can you say swoon? Miss Mcdonald, I don't exactly know how you did it, but you made me crush on a 17 year old. Seriously. Jared is wonderful and I just loved his character.

The romantic relationships (or lack thereof - you will have to read to know what I'm talking about) had me on an emotional roller-coaster. I didn't know what/who I wanted for Hanna. I "aw"ed and smiled through a lot of the interactions in Marked. I LOVE when that happens while reading.

The writing in this book was descriptive without overdoing it. I'm guilty of skimming through descriptions when I'm just wanting to get to the good stuff. But in Marked, the descriptions were some of the good stuff. I felt fully immersed in Hanna's environment and emotions through them, and was impressed by that. That being said, full disclosure, there were a small amount of grammar issues. Definitely not enough to make me dislike the book, just enough that it was noticeable.

Okay. I guess that's enough. Long story short, this is an indie book to read. I'm excited to eventually read the continuation.
Fans of Mortal Instruments series will enjoy this book. I highly recommend you give it a go!

<![CDATA[Autumn in the City of Angels by Kirby Howell - 4 STARS!]]>Fri, 11 Sep 2015 19:05:43 GMThttp://authorsamanthabritt.weebly.com/indie-reads--reviews/autumn-in-the-city-of-angels-by-kirby-howell-4-stars
Autumn in the City of Angels is a great read for those who enjoy post-apocalyptic adventure stories, with a little science-fiction and heart-warming romance thrown in!

The story opens with meeting Autumn, a 17 year old girl who is going throughout a typical day when tragedy strikes. A plague sweeps the globe, and only about 1% of the population are estimated to have survived the outbreak (I think that's right).

All alone, Autumn is forced to figure out life on her own. After encountering a group of survivors who turn out to be nothing more than power-hungry opportunists, Autumn meets Grey. Grey is intelligent, kind, wise beyond his years, and has secrets of his own. Our protagonist can't help but develop feelings for her savior. We embark on the rest of her time spent figuring out how to stay safe with those she cares for in her new reality.

This book is full of danger, suspense, heartache, friendship, and romance. Basically, it has about everything I could have wanted in a novel! Kirby Howell did a great job making me feel Autumn's emotions: fear, sadness, love, etc. I'm really glad I decided to give this indie book a chance! I'm excited to read the continuation!

*The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it took me a bit to really get into the story. I really wasn't hooked until Autumn began forming her post-apocalyptic relationships.
So, advice for future readers, if you feel a lull in the story, KEEP GOING!

<![CDATA[Shadowed Strength by Wendi L. Wilson]]>Thu, 10 Sep 2015 01:51:37 GMThttp://authorsamanthabritt.weebly.com/indie-reads--reviews/shadowed-strength-by-wendi-wilson

I read this book a while ago and left a review on Amazon and Goodreads. Since then, Wendi has been an invaluable source of support and advice on this self-publishing adventure. As a way to say thanks, I would like to feature her debut novel, Shadowed Strength, as my first Indie Book Review on Samantha's Scripts. :)

Shadowed Strength is a young adult book with enough romance to make you swoon and enough mystery and suspense to have you on edge!

I'm out of my teen years, but found Melanie's character very relatable, especially for younger audiences. Her story was real; her insecurities common in our society. It made me invest in her in a way that was different from the typical protagonists I read.

I absolutely loved Melanie and Tara's relationship. Their friendship felt very believable and was completely charming. I laughed at many of Tara's lines throughout the novel, and wished I had a best friend just as quirky!

Melanie's romantic relationship did seem to happen very suddenly, but it did not diminish the sweetness of it or, once again, the believable factor. The romance in Shadowed Strength was cute and heartwarming to say the least.

I could kind of predict the twist at the very end of the book, but it is one that I think will make for a great second book with a completely different plot (I suspect). I look forward to reading the continuation!

Overall, Shadowed Strength is an enjoyable read & I recommend it!
